    So bad Folks measure out from the vinyl to the outside of the drywall, rip it on the table, saw, do the top first. Then you’re two sides separately. But you do not build it like a door jam lol. This Metal bracket thing is a joke. Such a green horn way of doing a window and or door build out. They’re called build outs. Two thumbs down. So bad

    Would love to see how the other side is done. I assume its a little trickier. These hangers use keyholes allowing you to take the hanger out while sliding the door in. Other brands, I think, instruct you to bend the hangers while fitting the door, then bend them back in once door is in place.

    Apparently not for exterior doors with pre attached brick mold. You'd have to be Houdini to get the door in the rough opening with brick mold on one side and clips on the other. Same goes for installing the clips when the door is in the rough opening.

    what do you do when the opening is scissor legged. This is a common problem. And you also don't show how the brackets will no doubt create a gap between the casing and wall, as well as the the jamb and casing. Not all doors are paint grade and that would look horrible if you cant caulk.

  • @badlucklazyguy

    What is the max tolerance for space between rough frame and the pre-hung door? I have older houses that I have replaced doors in where there has been a good 1-2" gap (just old sloppy construction). These look like the rough frame and door have to be almost exactly fit.

    • @ezhangdoor
      @ezhangdoor 2 роки тому

      There should be some gap, normally 1/2” on each side. If the opening gets too large, you could always add a 3/4” strip to one or both sides of the opening, this would allow you to have something to screw the brackets to. This works well and also adds more support for the casing.

    I can't stress how great this system is! I hate to think about how many doors I installed the old school way. My first door installation using this system was perfect. I installed two kits- one on each side. By doing that, you don't need to add additional nails and shims on the inside jam. The jams are very study with two kits. No need to fill nail holes!

    • @scottkessler5514
      @scottkessler5514 3 роки тому

      BTW: I purchased the kits at Menards and used with their pre hung composite doors.

    • @coppingtonfarnham7731
      @coppingtonfarnham7731 3 роки тому

      I just bought two kits for each door. The problem I was encountering is the brackets can bend and the door moves during casement molding nailing. I would suggest using up to 13 brackets, 5-6 on each side, at least one on top....so two kits per door. It's especially important to have brackets near the bottom of the door to cope with the bottom end of the casement which is unsupported and typically MDX construction (particle board). We had several circa 1977 doors in dark walnut. I've been putting off door replacement for decades because shims are so difficult to use.

    • @scottkessler5514
      @scottkessler5514 3 роки тому

      @@coppingtonfarnham7731 I would use two sets of brackets- one on each side of the door e.g. inside and outside. I've only used these on light weight doors. Maybe the brackets could be supplemented with traditional nails and shims once the door is in place?

  • @RLuevano

    This was ridiculously simple to follow. in fact it was so simple i almost couldn't believe it myself and looked at alternate guides etc. in my case our door frame was tight. the prehung fit snug. our house has alot of oddities. things that should be done properly weren't by the original owner/builders. We had slight gap top left side. side with hinges. We tried to align as much as possible to the plumb line. Figuring this side was the most essential given all the weight would essentially be driven off this side. We couldn't put a bracket on top of door hinge. Too large a gap. And then we just made sure after placing the door handle and bracket on that there was proper spacing and then drilling in the brackets on the right side of the door. I'm still in shock as to how simple this was. I spent more time worrying about screwing it up rather than just following the video instruction as instructed. I would've had this project done weeks ago.

  • @SeeMzFTW

    This is actually a return and not an extension jamb as patio doors are similar to a window in that they are set flush to the exterior of the house. An extension jamb would be on a typical swing door set to the interior of the house. Also spray foam is unnecessary as the door rough opening before it should already be insulated and this is no more than a piece of trim.

      When I order a 'two-eight' door at our local lumber yard, I get a 32" door. If I ask for a 'two-eight' door at the local B'lowes or Homeless Despot, the spotty-faced kid either faints dead away on the spot or tells me I need to have a real man measure it for me. Too much jargon serves no purpose, other than to inflate one's already overly-inflated ego.

    Hey, the question is not directly related to this video, but I wanted to ask you anyhow since the question popped up during the “framing walls” video. The question will be about connecting walls, straight walls not intersecting walls. Say we’re building 40 foot long wall. Obviously this length is not available in lumber. We build it up by parts. Option one : we break the top plate on the stud and connect the next piece on that stud as well, and the double top plate laps over 4 feet as normal. Option 2. We break the top plate between studs and then there is the connection ( between studs ) and then the double top plate overlaps the connection 4 feet. In the nutshell: do we connect between studs or on the center of the studs? Which is more common? I’ve seen bot of them. Thanks Péter

    • @ezhangdoor
      @ezhangdoor 5 років тому

      Peter, you are correct that it can be done either way. I’ll try and give my opinion on both methods as I have used both. Joining over the single stud eliminates a stud and keeps the wall cavity the same size for installation of fiberglass batt insulation. The disadvantage is it can be weak until the top plate is added. The advantage to studs on the end is the strength created by being able to face nail the two studs together; and you would use an extra stud every wall you join. Disadvantage is the smaller wall cavity space for less insulation or cutting fiberglass to fit, along with the need to caulk the two studs for air infiltration. Either way works, it seems to be more a preference thing.

      EZ-Hang Door my questions are probably driving you nuts, I apologize, but please be kind and answer me one more question that I’ve been wondering about. For the sake of argument let say I have a wall ( exterior wall) 2x6 with double top plate that holds a floor ( ceiling ) joist system nailed 16 in oc. I need to put a roof over the walls. Spam of the building is 22 feet, rafter I’m going to go with is 2 x 8 Should I space ( simple gable roof 8/12 pitch) the rafters 24 in oc or go with the more common 16 in on center spacing? ( third option 12 inches seems too “tight” for the first look) Thanks so much Have a hive day, Péter

    • @ezhangdoor
      @ezhangdoor 5 років тому

      @@peterbalazs1537 Unfortunately the answer to the question really depends on other factors. The climate you live in, the Building Code you are constructing under, wind loads, seismic factors if any, location of the building (exposure factor), and if the structure could represents a loss of life (ie a garage or home etc..) You would need to verify the code in your location. There are span tables in the code book that give spacing tables based on a number of factors. Those could be snow, the width of the building (span), the size of the board, even the species of the wood being used. All of these factors play a role in rafter sizes. This is why engineered trusses have become so popular. For example I live in an area that gets snow in the winter. While a 2x8 spf 24" o.c. could work in a southern or warmer climate, it may not work here. This one isn't a preference answer like the wall studs, it's more of an engineering- safety issue. Hopefully that explains your questions.

      EZ-Hang Door thank you very much for taking the time explaining me the details. I understand it, and since we really don’t have general code for this kind of a structure ( in Europe we use bricks most of the time ) I will contact an engineer who will be able to check the details and make calculations and modifications according to the results. Thanks so much against for your time and for your help! Best regards Péter

    I like the hardcore 9-5ers who collect a weekly check talk and about how they are know it alls and faster and more hardcore than a lot of other tradesmen. I've always been quality not quantity and also realize that every job gives different situations and sometimes taking it slow to really figure something out is always the better way to go. I stopped collecting paychecks along time ago and now build my own houses, keep, and often rent out or sell on land contract. Now I'm building my 5,500 sq ft dream house at age 43. I've always worked steady and smart, not hardcore quick and stupid with my money. Remember, construction is permanent, so make sure it's done right. Save and invest the hard earned money my fellow tradesmen.
